Detailed Itinerary
 
Day 1: Thursday, August 5 USA - Warsaw
Depart from U.S. on internationally scheduled flight. Dinner served on board.
 
Day 2: Friday, August 6 Warsaw
Arrive in Warsaw mid-morning and meet your tour escort. Transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to unwind and relax. Tonight dinner will be served at the hotel.

Day 3: Saturday, August 7 Warsaw (Concert)
In the morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of Warsaw to include the Royal Castle, the Old Town and Holy Cross Church where Chopin’s Heart is buried. After lunch on your own, continue the tour “In the Footsteps of Frederic Chopin.” Following dinner in a local restaurant, attend a concert at the National Philharmonic Hall with Joshua Bell, Steven Isserlis and Denes Varjon.

Day 4: Sunday, August 8 Warsaw (Concert)
After a leisurely morning we drive to Zelazowa Wola, the birthplace of Frederic Chopin. See the museum devoted to him and enjoy a private concert before returning to Warsaw via Brochow. Brochow boasts of a Gothic parish church where many events of the Chopin family were celebrated. After dinner at the hotel, enjoy a concert to include music by Chopin and Mozart.

Day 5: Monday, August 9  Warsaw – Krakow
After breakfast depart from Warsaw and drive south to Krakow. The first stop is Czestochowa to view the famous Black Madonna of the Jasna Gora Monastery. After lunch on your own, continue to Krakow. Check-in at the hotel is followed by some free time to relax. Tonight we take you to the Jewish Quarter where a typical meal is served followed by a concert of Klezmer music.

Day 6: Tuesday, August 10 Krakow (Concert)
Following a hotel breakfast, go on a walking tour of Krakow. Explore the old town market-square, Cloth Hall, and the Gothic Church of Our Lady. After lunch on your own, we go to Kazimierz – the historical center of Krakow Jewish religious and social life. See the Old Synagogue, now the Judaic Department of the Historical Museum of the City, the Remuh Synagogue, the Remuh Cemetery, and locations Steven Spielberg used for the film “Schindler’s List”. The rest of the afternoon is free. After a hotel dinner, enjoy a private Szymanowski piano concert.

Day 7: Wednesday, August 11 Krakow – Auschwitz
Today we take you to Auschwitz and Birkenau. Auschwitz is the place of genocide, where the Nazis killed 1.5 million people, mainly Jews and Poles as well as Gypsies and other nationalities. The tour begins with a 15 minute documentary film about the liberation of the camp, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition in some of the prison blocks, the gas chamber and the crematorium. Have a short break for lunch on your own before we continue to Birkenau, where we go up the watchtower above the entrance gate to see the view of the former biggest Nazi extermination camp. Free time in Krakow before dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 8: Thursday, August 12 Wieliczka Salt Mine (Concert)
This morning is at leisure in Krakow. Do some shopping, stroll through the old town and/or visit a museum. After lunch on your own, we take you to Wieliczka Salt Mine which has been in operation some 700 years. The oldest part of the mine is a public museum. A walk in the mine leads you through galleries, chambers and chapels on three levels. All altarpieces, figures and monuments are carved in salt. The highlight is the richly decorated Chapel of St. Kinga. Dinner in a local restaurant in Krakow is followed by a concert with music by Polish Composers.

Day 9: Friday, August 13 Krakow - USA
After breakfast a transfer will take you to Krakow Airport for your flight back home.
